After Zeus has the last straw with his son Apollo, Apollo is banished to Earth where he is turned into a mortal, a teenager boy to be exact. Without the powers that he has grown accustomed to for thousands of years, Apollo now must navigate the human world, with his former enemies looking to take advantage of this. With his life in danger, Apollo must go to Camp Half Blood, the infamous safe ground, for people like himself.

I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW EXCITED I WAS WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT RICK WAS WRITING ANOTHER PERCY JACKSON SPINOFF! Those books were my CHILDHOOD in every way possible, and I was in serious mourning when The Heroes of Olympus series ended, because I thought we had seen the last of Camp Half Blood. But my prayers have been answered and I could not be happier!

Apollo was absolutely hilarious in this book! Well, all of Riordan's books are. If you're familiar, all of his character have incredibly humorous voices, and this was no different. I cracked up multiple times and I had a smile plastered on my face through the entire book. Apollo was such a fun god to read about, I think this series was such a clever move.

I also loved the representation in this book! Apollo was bisexual, his son is gay, it was so great to see LGBT representation in a book that also appeals to Middle Grade readers. It shows them how great diverse books can be!

We get introduced to some new characters, and get to be reunited with others. LIKE MY PRECIOUS BABY LEO I MISSED YOU SO MUCH!  I loved how the old characters were actively involved, but also gave room for the new characters to grow. It was so incredible.

Some people are annoyed that Rick keeps milking this world but honestly if he didn't I wouldn't know what to do with myself. These books were second to Harry Potter for me, and I will never be able to let them go.

Have you read The Hidden Oracle? What did you think?

  3. I really liked this one as well!
Rick Riordan keeps creating books in the same universe and that could annoy me, but I actually find them enjoyable. Although I don't love the Heroes of Olympus series as much, I really think this one has a lot of potential.
Apollo is such a funny character and I loved his development! I also loved his sidekicks - they're so unique and diverse.
I'm glad you enjoyed this one as much as I did!

    1. He was so hilarious and I loved how different he was to the demigods! I think I enjoyed Heros of Olympus a bit more than Percy Jackson, and that's just because it introduce Leo who's my all time favourite character :)

  4. As much as I love Rick Riordan and will continue to read his books, I felt like this was one of his weaker :/ Felt too similar to the first Magnus Chase book but with more annoying characters. And as much as I hate to say it, Nico and Will's relationship felt done just for the sake of having a gay relationship, as I felt no chemistry between them. I'm really hoping the second book is better because I love the previous two series.

    1. I haven't read Magnus Chase so I can't really compare the two, but I do think that this was his weakest of the three Greek series. Still amazing for me, but I liked the other two better. I actually really thought that Will and Nico were quite cute. I also just really liked how Apollo talked about bisexuality and being supportive and such, I thought it was really cute.

    2. I mean I still enjoyed both because I'm a sucker for mythology and Rick Ridordan haha :P It did set the scene well so hopefully the series will grow and expand and become just as good as the others. Yeah, I agree about Apollo being so open and accepting (gods have to be, what with all they get up to)

  5. Oh dear, I feel like such a party-pooper but I don't think Rick Riordan is for me. *awkward silence* I only read Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, and while it was...interesting...I had to kind of struggle through it and so I think I'm a bit put off by this author in general. Don't kill me!!! I can see that you're a huge fan, though, like almost everyone I know, so I'm glad you enjoyed this book so much! :D

  6. I'm so ashamed to say that I still haven't read The Heroes of Olympus or Trials of Apollo, even though I loved the original PJ series. (The first one I'm not really interested in, tbh. Do you think it lives up to PJ & the Olympians?)
ToA seems like such a fun book! And I love how it has LGBT representation, bc that is SO RARE in Fantasy novels, imo, especially for the main characters to be part of the LGBT community.
    Wonderful review!

    1. The Heros of Olympus series is so creative and cool and the new characters are to die for! I would really recommend it :) As for ToA, again it's really witty and is the first of his books for that LGBT rep, which is so awesome!
