Month in Review: October

I know I am not as consistent with monthly wrap-ups anymore, but a lot of stuff did happen in October which I am happy to share!

What I Read:

The Beetle by: Richard Marsh: 2/5 stars
Buffy the Vampire Slayer #1 by: Jordie Bellaire, Dan Mora, Raul Angulo: 5/5 stars
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by: Lewis Carroll: 3/5 stars
Agamemnon by: Aeschylus: 4/5 stars
Prometheus Bound by: Aeschylus: 3/5 stars
The Picture of Dorian Gray by: Oscar Wilde: 5/5 stars

The randomness of these selections is all thanks to my school reading list. Although, the two Greek plays were actually pleasure readings due to a beautiful copy of Greek tragedies I found!

Favourite book: I got the new series of Buffy comics back in the summer, and finally got around to reading it. Not only was the art beautiful, but it was a really cool modern take on Buffy!

What I Blogged:

I think I stayed pretty consistent in blogging once a week! (Minus one week, but we'll get to the reason later) Anyways, my favourite post was my review of Red, White and Royal Blue by: Casey Mcquiston. I just loved that book so much that it was so good to finally get my thoughts out!

Favourite Blog Posts:

Shayna writes a beautiful Tribute to Sylvia Plath
Veronika discusses Unreliable Narrators

Life Stuff:

The main thing that happened in October, was that for my fall break from university, I went to England! There was a purpose to my trip, I want to do my Master's there and so I went to go visit some universities and do some campus tours. I basically went all over, which was tiring, but also really cool because I have never explored England outside of London. My favourite university I saw was Warwick, however, I also did have *a bit* of an anxiety attack while I was there, wondering if I could really go abroad. So we will see what happens in the future.

I did get to spend one day in London though, and I was so happy that I could finally see Hamilton. This musical means so much to me and it was so awesome to finally be able to see it. I also got my programme signed by some of the cast members which was a major fangirl moment!

So that was my month. Now I am looking forward to switching to Christmas mode soon. I have already seen some commercials (gasp!) What did you get up to in October?

  1. I'm sad The Beetle disappointed you, because I bought a copy of it a few years ago and I have literally no desire to read it, haha. Could have used the motivation of you saying it's good. Your trip to England sounds amazing - I'm glad you had the chance to spend a day in London, too. I definitely get how it would be scary to go to university in a different country. It's so cool that you got to see Hamilton why you were there. :) I hope your November will be wonderful! :)

    1. Honestly it was extremely racist, which is unsurprising given the time period, but that really just put me off of it. I had to read it for my Gothic lit class and so having to study it also didn’t help it’s cause haha! Thanks Veronika, I hope you have a good November too!

  2. As always, thanks for the link Em! <3

Glad you had a good time in England - as far as uni goes, do what's right for you. Think about how you prioritise different factors (the course, the distance from family, etc.) and don't be afraid to talk things over with anyone who'll listen! :)

    1. Thanks for the advice, Cee! I went to look at the university of Bristol and my dad mentioned that it is quite close to Wales. I should have paid your home country a visit :D

    2. Yes! People from Bristol commute to Cardiff and vice-versa. Bristol is where the bridge is to get across to us! If you ever get chance again, come over the border and look around! XD

  3. My apologies for not commenting sooner, things have been a little bit crazy.
Thank you so much for featuring my post, I'm so glad you liked it! I really wasn't sure if it was going to get any response, so I love to hear it was appreciated.
I love that you loved Dorian Gray! It's a favourite of mine, but I realized a few years after I had read it, that I read the original published version which was highly censored. I now own both versions, but I haven't read the uncensored one yet.
    Yay Hamilton!
I wish you the best of luck with your decisions about school. All that I can say, is that you will be surprised at how fast you get used to things. I decided what degree I was going to take randomly in the middle of an exam - a crazy-sounding decision, but there is no part of me that regrets it. You'll figure it out. If you need anyone to talk to about it (or rant, or freak out), you have my ears.

    1. Don’t worry about it, Shayna! I totally get how crazy life and be. I’m really glad I liked Dorian Gray. I had to read it for school so honestly I wasn’t expecting to be really into it, but I was pleasantly surprised. Haha, I will definitely be reaching out to the book community if I ever need to talk about school stuff. It can be so stressful!
