Month in Review: March
How is everyone holding up? This month has been hard. But, I know from personal experience that it is hard to escape any news regarding COVID-19 nowadays. So I'm not going to repeat the same things that pretty much everyone is going through. Let's just focus on the books!
What I Read:
The Dreamers by: Karen Thompson Walker: 5/5 stars
The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano: Written by Himself: 3/5 stars
Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry by: Mildred D. Taylor: 3/5 stars
Rebent Sinner by: Ivan Coyote: 5/5 stars
Call Down the Hawk by: Maggie Stiefvater: 3/5 stars
Two Dark Reigns by: Kendare Blake: 4/5 stars
Favourite book: As you can see, I read a lot this month! My favourite book was The Dreamers, which one of my professors actually let me borrow. It revolves around a pandemic, so proceed with caution, but I found it to be a very hopeful novel.
What I Blogged:
My favourite blog post this month was the Liebster Award. I did it for a second time, and it was nice to return to book tags. I used to do them a lot in the early days of the blog, and I forgot how fun they are. If you have any other tag recommendations for me to do, please share them!
Favourite Blog Posts:
Jillian talks about her Continuous Search for More
Roberta asks if you are an Impulsive Book Buyer?
Nicole shares weird Google Searches that Lead to her Blog
Life Stuff:
Like I said before, this month has been anything but easy. But, with everything so doom and gloom, I am taking it upon myself to only share positive things that happened to me this month:
My family fired up our old Nintendo Wii! For those of you who had one, it certainly brings back a lot of nostalgia. I have been having a lot of fun playing Mario Kart with my sister, and pretending to work out on Wii Fit. I forgot how fun a Wii is!
I have started watching a new Youtube channel called Yes Theory, and have been really enjoying their videos. They love to travel and they do things that are out of their comfort zone. In fact, their motto is "seek discomfort." Overall I find their videos very heartwarming, and their videos give me a bit of a travel bug!
I made my first recipe from Bon Appetit! For those of you who don't know, Bon Appetit is a youtube cooking channel. The cast is so likable, and I have been watching them for quite a while now. But, I have never made one of their recipes before. Finally my sister and I made pasta with tomatoes and chickpeas. It was delicious! Maybe I have a cooking bug too?
So, that was my month. It was not perfect in any way. There were a lot of struggles. But, I am trying to focus more on the positive. We got this, folks.
What's one positive thing that happened in your month?

Well done for getting through March, Em! <3 You rock!
ReplyDeleteAlso well done on cooking something! To me, cooking is essentially one of the dark arts - so anything beyond toast or a sandwich is most definitely impressive! (Lol, I am so glad we have a microwave at home! In my defence, timing with dyscalculia is a gamble at best!)
*random hug! Just because!* <3
Hugs to you too! Thanks for everything, Cee :) And no shame in being apprehensive about cooking! I have had many disasters before lol.
DeleteNo problem *more hugs* <3
DeleteGlad you're doing well!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see you gave Two Dark Reigns a positive rating, I've only read the first two books so far and can't wait to read more :)
One positive thing for me is that one of my best friends got stuck on lockdown with me, so when we're not fighting we're having movie marathons and lots of fun!
It was a very good third book! I can’t wait to read the conclusion.
DeleteThat’s fun to have a friend around. Good company is always needed in this time :)
I love this post, and I'm so glad you looked for the bright spots :) Ahh the Wii! I haven't played on one in so long, but my younger sister and I used to have so much fun with Mario Kart and Wii Sports Resort. It looks like you read a lot this month as well! What did you think of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry? I've seen a lot of praise for it, but have never read it myself. My march highlight was getting to Zoom with some of my college classmates to celebrate my birthday. I hope you have a wonderful April! :))

Wii Sports Resort is so entertaining! It has brought out my family’s competitive side haha.
DeleteI thought Roll of Thunder was... ok. I had to read it for my children’s lit course and I never am really into books for school. It wasn’t terrible, but it also just didn’t interest me all that much.
Hope you have a good April too, Claire! Can’t wait for the book club to start :D
Aww. Thank you for the shout-out! 😘
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to find something positive to share these days, so good job on that! What can I say? Well, that I'm still going through the stack of books I bought at the beginning of the year, and so far they've all been winners! with Middlegame by S. McGuire as the best of the bunch so far.
Have a good month, despite the madness around 🙂.
I’m glad you’re enjoying your books! It’s so awesome to find some new favourites, especially in times like these. Hope you have a good April as well, Roberta!
DeleteMan, this month has been WEIRD. When it began, I was living and attending school in Scotland and taking trips out to the Highlands. I was planning European travels and was so excited but a little homesick. Now, I am home and just finished two weeks of full self-quarantine, but not much has changed since I am obviously still pretty much staying home all the time. I hope you are doing well and stay safe! Oh, and I LOVE Bon Appetite!
ReplyDeleteIt’s so strange how much everything has changed. I left work one day and now I don’t even know when I will be back. But anyways, glad you made it home safe and sound. I’m sure you will find your way back to Europe once this is all over :)
DeleteSeems like your March has been fulfilling! I find that learning a new recipe always brings me joy, and especially if I'm sharing the food with the people I love.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I know how fun Wii is! I also had one, but now I have the new Nintendo console haha

Learning a new recipe is so fun! It is very rewarding :)
DeleteHope you had a good March as well!
Wow you read so many books this month and I'm glad you liked them! In March, I only read or finished 1 book because of so much stress. Also, my brain is pretty much tired all the time due to school. I used to play the Wii a lot sometime 10 years ago! I can't believe it was that long ago, but that was the best gaming console then and I'm happy you are using it again :) I really loved playing Smash (still do in the Switch).
ReplyDeleteHappy April!

I totally understand how hard it was to get to reading in March. It’s so hard to focus with all of these stressors going around! I hope your April is more relaxing :)
DeleteMy kids have been playing the Switch a lot lately---lots of Animal Crossing. We used to do family Mario Kart championships back in the day---so fun!!
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
I really want a Switch but I don’t know how much I’d use it. I’m not a huge gamer, but every time I do play a video game I end up loving it.
DeleteOoh Two Dark Reigns! Glad you were able to find some positives- it has been a tough month. Good grief has the world gone crazy or what? Hope your april is off to good start and stay safe...
ReplyDelete"pretending to work out on Wii Fit" haha right? I love the Wii.
Thanks Greg! Hope your April is good too :)
DeleteHaha, Wii Fit is so interesting. I guess you could make it a work out if you really tried, but I just find myself having fun playing the games.
