Month in Review: April

We are now in the 2nd last month of the school year and I could not be more stressed! I'm going to be put in a lot of social situations this month which I am not used to, so if we could just fast forward to June, I would really appreciate it.

What I Read:

The Shining by: Stephen King: 2/5 stars
The Hate U Give by: Angie Thomas: 5/5 stars
The Virgin Suicides by: Jeffrey Eugenides: 1/5 stars
Kitty Hawk and the Curse of the Yukon Gold by: Iain Reading: 3/5 stars
The Song of Achilles by: Madeline Miller: 5/5 stars
A Study in Charlotte by: Brittany Cavallaro: 2/5 stars
The Kingdom of Oceana by: Mitchell Charles: 3/5 stars

What I Blogged:

9 blog posts went up this month! I think my favourite post was Don't Judge a Book by Its Publisher. It was kind of interesting to talk about and something that I've been thinking about for a while.

Favourite Book: Without a doubt, The Song of Achilles. It combined two of my favourite things: Greek Mythology, and a good romance, and I know I will be re-reading this one for a long time.

Favourite Blog Posts of the Month:

Cee explains that Millennials are not Lazy
Lais discusses Trigger Warnings
Amy review Six of Crows
Uma explains how she Develops Fantasy Worlds

Life Stuff of the Month:

Nothing really significant happened this month. A lot of worrying for the upcoming months, especially May, but other than that I haven't got anything new to really report. I just really hope that I will be able to calm myself down for this month. Hopefully when I'm writing my Month in Review for May, I will be saying some positive things!

How was your April?

  1. I'm sorry you didn't like The Shining! What was it about it that you didn't like? Glad to see that you liked The Song of Achilles though, I love that book so much! Good luck with everything happening in May! My exams start then so I can't say I'm looking forward to next month either haha.

    1. I just found it quite boring! I couldn't connect with the characters at all and did not care for them one bit. It might have something to do with the fact that I had to read it for school, so everything was being analyzed and I had to know every little detail for tests, which was so annoying. Good luck with your exams though!

    2. It terrified me the first time I read it haha. So odd that you have to study it though, I'd love to study more modern texts!

    3. Well it was for my horror literature class, so I understand why she chose it, but everyone was raving about it and I was like: I have no care for this lol.

And I loved your post about judging books by their publisher! It is quite an interesting topic!

My semester exams are going on currently and come June I'll be writing entrance examinations for my PG degree course and attending interviews :/ I wish I could skip to June too!

    1. Honestly I was so detached from The Shining that I didn't get scared much. And I am a huge scaredy cat! Good luck on your exams! I'm sure you'll do great :D

  5. The only books I've read from your list is the Hate U Give and it was amazing! Glad to see that you enjoyed it as well. I'm also worrying a lot about May, I have all of my main exams for university so it's a teeny tiny bit stressful at the minute, so I get how you feel completely! I'll have to take a look at The Song of Achilles though, I'm not sure I've ever heard of that one!

    1. I'm sure we'll both get through it! You HAVE to check out The Song of Achilles! It was out of this world awesome, especially if you like Greek mythology :)

  6. 1/5 for The Virgin Suicides? How come?! I have that one on my shelf, but I haven't got round to reading it yet. I didn't enjoy The Shining either - I just found it really slow and lacking in tension? I hope school doesn't get too stressful for you, but if it does, I'm always here if you need <3

    1. Omg it was so boring! Also it romanticized suicide A LOT. It portrayed suicide as this elegant, mysterious thing that these girls do without any reason at all besides to be a plot point. I hated it.

Thank you Denise, I hope you have a good May as well!

  7. I've heard quite a lot of people found The Virgin Suicides problematic, so I'm not surprised you rate it 1! And ahhh, I managed to read THUG too and it was amazing! And eek, you read a Kitty Hawk book! I liked the 2nd and 3rd books much more tbh, so if you want to go ahead with the series maybe try them? :D And omg, you've got prom this month, haven't you? Eep! Good luck! :P

    1. I wish I had read reviews before picking it up! It was such a waste of time. THUG on the other hand, was definitely not lol! I'm kind of on the fence about Kitty Hawk but I'll definitely keep it on my tbr. You never know! And yes, I do have prom this month! Thanks Ruzaika, I think I'll need a bit of luck :)

The Song of Achilles sounds amazing, I must look out for that one. I love the idea of Greek mythology and romance.
